61 Gold Street sat empty for years, a nursing facility in the Financial District, vacant since 2020, its exits fenced off. Kings Capital is converting its seventeen stories into 108 apartments, and INPUT designed the interiors that answer back to the building's Brutalist bones: onyx, copper, terrazzo, and walnut, one warm material after another, set against all that raw concrete.
The reception desk is clad in Bordeaux onyx, its natural banding running rust and gray in a pattern too specific to ever repeat, wrapping from the wall behind it down into the desk itself as one continuous slab. Both elevator doors sit inside a wall of perforated copper, a fine grid of punched holes that turns the whole bay into one glowing screen instead of two doors set into a wall. The terrazzo floor underneath runs in wide-format panels, brass strips marking a grid across the lobby, the aggregate's warm rust and cream flecks picking up the copper above it.
Upstairs in the resident lounge, walnut wraps a structural column floor to ceiling and the furniture goes mid-century: wire-frame chairs, a marble-topped table on a sculpted base, a green velvet sofa rolled at both arms instead of boxed at the corners. A shelf holds a run of vinyl above a low wet bar with its own espresso machine and wine fridge, the kind of detail that reads as someone's actual collection rather than styling.
